Why is my aircon leaking?

Why Is My Aircon Leaking?
Aircon water leaks are a common problem in Singapore. If you see water dripping from your unit, don’t ignore it. It usually means something is blocked, dirty, or worn out.
Common Causes of Aircon Leaks
1. Clogged Drainage Pipe
This is the most common reason. Dust and algae can block the drain line, causing water to backflow and leak from the indoor unit.
2. Dirty Cooling Coil or Filters
When filters are dirty, air can't flow properly. This can cause the coil to freeze and leak water as it melts.
3. Low Gas Pressure
Low refrigerant causes the coil to ice over. When it thaws, excess water drips out. You’ll also notice weak or no cooling.
4. Improper Installation
If your aircon wasn't installed with the correct tilt or pipe alignment, water may not drain out properly.
5. Damaged Drain Pan
The pan that collects condensation may be cracked or rusted, especially in older units.
6. Fan Coil Overdue for Servicing
If your aircon hasn’t been cleaned in a while, built-up dirt and mould can block airflow and drainage.
