🌫️ Why Does the Room Feel Humid Even When Cooling?

Your aircon may be blowing cold air, yet the room still feels sticky, damp, or uncomfortable. This is one of the most common issues in Singapore due to our high humidity levels.

Cold but humid air usually means your aircon is cooling, but not dehumidifying properly. When this happens, your room no longer feels fresh and your aircon becomes less efficient.

Here are the main causes.

1. Dirty or Blocked Evaporator Coil

The evaporator coil is responsible for removing moisture from the air. When it is dirty, airflow becomes restricted and the coil cannot remove humidity effectively.

Signs:

  • Cooling is okay but the room feels sticky

  • Musty smell

  • Visible dust on filters

Solution: General servicing or a chemical wash to clean the coil.

2. Clogged or Slow Drain Pipe

If moisture cannot drain out properly, humidity builds up inside the indoor unit and gets pushed back into the room.

Causes:

  • Algae buildup

  • Dust blocking the pipe

  • Water pooling in the drain pan

Solution: Clear and flush the drain pipe.

3. Frozen Evaporator Coil

When the coil freezes, it cannot absorb moisture. This leads to cold air that still feels humid.

Common causes:

  • Low gas pressure

  • Very dirty coil

  • Weak airflow

Solution: Defrost, inspect, and repair. A gas top-up or deep cleaning may be required.

4. Oversized Aircon (Too Many BTUs)

If your aircon is too powerful for the room, it cools the air too quickly. Since it cools fast, it shuts off before removing humidity, leaving the room cold but damp.

Signs:

  • Room becomes cold fast

  • Humidity stays high

  • Short on-off cycles

Solution: Use correct BTU sizing. We can calculate this for your room.

5. Weak or Faulty Blower Fan

If the fan is not spinning properly, moist air will not pass through the coil.

Signs:

  • Weak airflow

  • Extra noise or vibration

  • Irregular fan speed

Solution: Fan motor servicing or replacement.

6. Outside Humid Air Entering the Room

Humidity rises when aircon air mixes with outside air.

Common issues:

  • Windows not fully closed

  • Toilet or kitchen door left open

  • Gaps around windows

Solution: Keep all openings closed for stable humidity control.

How Sky Blue Aircon Fixes Humidity Issues
